March 2008

We've had the winter frosts although no snow this year and now head into springtime.  At present I'm busy preparing for an exhibition of my work which will be held May 23rd - 24th Chipping Campden Baptist Church, which is situated in the corner of the square in the centre of the town.  About 75 framed pictures will be on show together with greeting cards and unframed work.  There will be a seating area and tea, coffee and cake or biscuits available giving everyone chance to browse through the books of my other works.  I hope you will be able to come, and look forward to meeting you.

First an apology for the delay in putting up this post.  Work has been hectic with lots of people wanting pictures as Christmas presents.  There have also been lots of seasonal events. There was 'The Spirit of Christmas' which involved traders and organisations in the High Street.  There were horse and carriage rides, pig roast, circus entertainers, carol service in the Market Hall, the children's nativity and stalls.  A good evening enjoyed by all.  A few pictures giving the flavour below.

We are now into Autumn with the leaves changing colour  The farmers are busy ploughing in the stubble from harvest.  It is also time for the ploughing chanmpionships.  We recently visited the Faringdon vintage ploughing championships and had a very enjoyable day.

The gardens are looking very lush at present, probably due to all the rainfall we've been experiencing.  Yesterday we visited nearby Mill Dene Gardens at Blockley which has a sculpture exhibition.  A very enjoyable morning even though we had to shelter from a sudden downpour!

June 2007

June is the month of the annual Cotswold Olimpicks dating back to 1636 and celebrated in its present form since 1938.  It starts with races in the street for the children and then games on Dover's Hill using the natural amphitheatre of the hill with a wonderful torchlight procession down into Campden where dancing in the square finishes off the evening.  Saturday is the day for crowning the new Scuttlebrook queen, with maypole and country dancing, a fancy dress parade and finishing off with the fair in the street.  Usually there are the magnificent steam Ginny Horses but unfortunately they were not here this year.  Something to look forward to next year?

The gardens are looking lovely at present.  This year is the best our Rhodendrons have ever been.  A visit to Batsford Arboretum  on a blustery day was worthwhile as The Handkerchief tree (Davidia Involutucrata) was in full flower.

A real spectacle.

April 2007
April has been the month when everything is suddenly a blaze of colour. The lambs are now playing in the fields and today we took a walk along the hill between Willersey and Broadway and were amazed by a woodland carpeted with bluebells. A later visit to The National Trust gardens at Hidcote completed our flower fest.
